Last time I gave my 2 cent on this subjects, some of the era snobs here got their briefs all in knots. Did TMNS improve through the 70s? I would say yes. Through the 80s and 90s. I would say no. I think a lot of the ballads gained impact in the stadium shows of the late 80s. Candyman and Stella Blue played loud from this era give me goosebumps.

Your mention of the ballads reminds me: Black Peter and High Time are also great in the later years. I agree about Candyman too.

TMNS is one of the tunes where I really miss Donna when she's gone. (Another being Row Jimmy.)

Interesting thought on late-era Stella and Candyman. Any examples?

Stella and candy man both took more shape for me in the last half.

One of my favorite stella's 6-26-84
One of my favorite candy mans 4-10-87 when phil introduces Billy and Mick, who are very synced.

Spring 87 was a really fun time, not much buzz lately though.
